On Friday, June 25, Joe and I met up with some of our college friends at the Des Moines Arts Festival. There was something like 92 new artists to the fest this year. It was absolutely amazing. There was one artist who has a permanent exhibit at the Smithsonian. I bought 2 really gorgeous matted prints. We ate, drank, looked at art, and listened to music in the park. It was a great night. There was a food booth that was 'alledgedly' Polish food. I saw a sign that said pierogi. So, naturally, I was drawn to that booth and I bought us some pierogi. I know what you're thinking, "Pierogi in Iowa, yeah right!" Believe me... these were not your Babcia's pierogi. They were huge and deep fat fried. Good, but not great, and definitely did not remind me or an authentic Polish pierogi. But you live and you learn! After I bought our food, I told the vendor, "dzienkuje bardzo" and he had no idea what I said! haha Some of the colorful sculptures in these pics were in the price range of a mere $22,000. So if you'd like me to pick one up for you, let me know.
